ALIA (Accademia Lingua Italiana Assisi) is a newly established publishing house that focuses on projecting, experimenting and publishing material for teaching Italian to foreigners on linguistic and literary levels. These materials are currently available:

This volume has been devised, tested and brought to completion with two- fold objective of:
(1) putting into practice the structures of learning with linguistical communicative material
(2) putting the student into the habit of working on authentic texts with techniques used for certification tests.
All the practice materials found in the exercise books have been selected and graded on the basis of highly specific criteria in terms of use and function and have been the object of experimentation in different levels with students of various backgrounds linguistical knowledge. The numerous excepts of authors gleaned from books, magazines, newspapers, journals that one finds within the manual are furthermore conducive to developing conversational and reading skills, due to the variety of contents and of literary styles. In order to amplify and examine the individual topics each chapter provides:
- Tests of linguistical competence
- Tests of oral comprehension
- Tests of guided written performance
- Tests of free writing performance
The final chapter offers tests of examination for issuing a certificate that attests to the knowledge of Italian is based on a test which assesses one's skills of linguistical comprehension and performance on both written and oral levels.

Latin sayings. Italian Proverbs. Linguistical peculiarities. The text aims at satisfying the requirements and aspirations of those who want to deepen their knowledge of Italian, to perfect or expand their use of it, or to enliven or personalize their conversations with a touch of originality. Resulting from a rigorous, statistical research, this text also presents: linguistical material with a high index of frequency; Latin sayings that are used extensively in middle-high Italian; Italian proverbs that draw from a popular tradition which is still strongly felt in the language of everyday usage; a wide and accurate selection of prefixes/ primary elements and suffixes/ secondary elements of Greek and Latin origins that have particular importance given their prolific character; in addition, this text presents some unique linguistical peculiarities of noteworthy interest with respect to their genesis and semantical evolution.

This material garnished with literary and critical texts the latter strategically placed at the service of the former with exercises of reading and writing, of grammar, of syntax, of vocabulary and of style, is predominantly addressed to foreign students who focus on acquiring a higher level of knowledge of Italian. The basic texts comprise the most significant themes of Italian Literature of the nineteenth century, particularly those of the more classical authors or representatives of the epoch such as Foscolo, Tarchetti, Verga, De Amicis, Svevo, Pascoli, Pirandello. The selected excerpts have all been carefully measured for the purpose of providing essential and precise cultural information, opportunities for study and reflection, sketches of the souls of the authors and the topics of that era.
